Q: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
A: Anthony and I always love throwing big weekend getaways with our friends and family. Whether it's in Santa Barbara, the Redwoods or Catalina Island, we've always loved getting people together for fun and activities - our wedding weekend was no different. We had games and activities all throughout the day and bonfire sing alongs at night. The inspiration behind the weekend was to have some traditional elements from Baja and the landscape, while incorporating romantic vintage details throughout. The history of RLC is really spectacular as it was a getaway for Bing Crosby, Desi Arnez and other distinguished guests. You step onsite and it's like walking back in time. Everything is so well preserved and we wanted to highlight the unique aspects of the resort and surrounding area.
Q: How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
A: Rancho Las Cruces has a beautiful chapel with amazing natural light, so we wanted to keep the ceremony decorations breezy and bright. The space was decorated with votives and lush greenery. As a fun touch, we bought maracas and hand wrote sayings like, "shake for a kiss" on them. Guests each grabbed one on their way into the chapel and it created a really fun energy as the wedding party was walking down the aisle. I loved the idea of mixing light and dark, so for the reception we had a beautiful contrast of soft gray table runners, textured glasses with these lovely vintage wrought iron chairs. This along with the tropical statement centerpieces created a stunning and unique table setting. Anthony's mom hand made the napkin rings from beautiful stones she found at a gem shop. Each guest got to keep one as a keepsake which was really special.
Q: Did you personalize the day in any way? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
A: My mom made my wedding dress and vail. It was such a special experience to see it all come together. From picking out a silhouette, to shopping for fabric and all the fittings in between - it was such a special experience to share with my mom. Also, the dress was exactly what I wanted and I think in large part it's because she knows me so well :)
Q: Let's talk fashion. How did you choose your wedding day look? How did the groom?
A: When I envisioned my wedding look, I wanted something elegant and not too fussy. For my dress, we opted for this stunning structured lace that fit perfectly for a Mexico beachside wedding. The dress had a low back and long dramatic train. I also love the look of a wrist cuff, but it's not the most practical for dancing all night long, so my mom built in a bustle as well for later in the night when the dancing picked up. Anthony wore a wonderfully tailored navy suit and monochrome tie.
Q: How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
A: We met when we were 19 years old at UCSB. My sorority didn't allow for people to live in the house during Summer, so we had to find places to sublet. Interestingly enough I was subletting from one of Anthony's baseball team mates, so we ended up being roommates for the summer. A little unconventional for a first meeting situation, but it worked out :) About 10 years later Anthony proposed at San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara. It was the same spot his dad had proposed to his mom 32 years before and it was magical.
